March 11th Rockland Review

A Letter From Mr. Cieciwa

Dear Rockland Parents and Guardians,

The last two weeks have been filled with change for Rockland and our Raptors.  Many classrooms have changed seating arrangements and all classrooms are having students spending more time working collaboratively with partners and small groups.  It has been great to see our primary students enjoying their lessons on the rug with their teacher.  Students are all eating in the multipurpose room again and we have returned to many of our pre-covid procedures.  Our 4th grade basketball players have been doing a great job in the tournament this week and showing amazing sportsmanship.  Finally, we are looking forward to the RFA Pattycake breakfast this weekend!  I hope to see many of our families there!

Report Cards and STAR Scores:

Our second trimester is coming to an end and report cards will be available today in the Powerschool Parent Portal.  Remember to go into the PLS Vault to find the report card.  In addition, STAR assessment reports will be available today.  These are also available in the Parent Portal by clicking on the small square with an arrow coming out of it in the upper right corner of the screen.  Remember to use a computer as opposed to a mobile device to view this information.

Instructions for viewing the report card:

1. Log in to https://powerschool.d70schools.org/ with the username and password you created  during student registration

a) This must be done from a computer, the report cards are not available through the  mobile app

b) If you’ve forgotten your username or password, please use the “Forgot Username or  Password?” link below the password box and follow the directions to recover them.

2. Once you are logged in, if you have more than one student, select the one whose report card you wish to view by clicking on their name at the top of the screen.

3. Click on “PLS Vault Documents” in the sidebar on the left.

Kindergarten Registration and Kindergarten Family Orientation:

If you have a child who will be turning 5 by September 1, 2022, make sure to register them for Kindergarten at Rockland.  Early registration helps us to plan and staff so there are no last minute changes.  Use this link to our district website to register.  If you know a family in the neighborhood who will have kindergarten age children please let them know as well.

Kindergarten/New Student Registration

Our Kindergarten Orientation for families is scheduled for April 12th at 6:30 pm.  This event will be held in-person at Rockland.  Please have your child registered prior to this event.

Returning Student Registration:

Please complete registration for the upcoming school year as soon as possible if you are planning to return to a D70 school next year.  This information helps us in sectioning and class building.  The process begins in the Powerschool parent portal.  For more information, use this link:  Returning Student Registration

Update from the Gym!

The Raptors have been staying busy in PE over the Winter months and as we look forward to Spring and getting back outside.  We have completed several units these past few months which include paddleball, bowling, dance, rock-wall, a week of Olympic games activities, the first round of fitness testing, and probably one of our favorites with floor hockey.

We feel lucky to have been able to bring back a couple Rockland traditions this year with our bowling field trips and hosting the annual Winter Classic hockey tournament again this year which went off with a bang.  Congrats to all the 3rd-5th graders who participated in running that tournament, what a great time!  The students are looking forward to starting our basketball and volleyball units coming up here soon.

As we prepare for the end of the year, we still have lots to accomplish which include that second round of fitness tests.  Please encourage your young Raptors to keep focused on their fitness goals so they can perform their personal best starting after Spring Break.

Thank you for your continued support in making sure your Raptors have their PE gear here at school so they can make the most of the end of the school year!

Thanks for checking in!

Mr. Kolar

A Note From Mrs. Vertanen

Greetings Rockland Family,

It is with mixed emotions that I let you know of my upcoming resignation- my last day will be 4/15/22.  I have had the privilege of living in Libertyville and serving the Rockland community for the last four years and for that I am immensely grateful.

I have thoroughly enjoyed connecting with students, collaborating with teachers and parents, and being a member of this wonderfully supportive community.  Thank you for embracing me as part of the D70 family and trusting me with your children’s social emotional development.

Warmly,

Michelle Vertanen

School Psychologist
