May 20th Rockland Review

A Letter From Mr. Cieciwa

Dear Rockland Parents and Guardians,

Our Rockland Raptors are having an exciting May!  The entire school celebrated the first grade class and welcomed them into the Circle  of Readers.  A big thank you to our kindergarten, 1st grade, interventionist, resource, and enrichment teachers and parents that helped out students along their journey to becoming readers.  Our band, choir, and orchestra performed in concert in the last few weeks and did an amazing job.  We still have some great learning to do before our year is complete and we are looking forward to our last two weeks together!

Student Devices:

We will be collecting student devices on June 1st.  Students will turn in their chromebook or iPad, and accessories on this date.  A communication was sent on May 17th from the district with details.  Please make sure your student has their device and all district accessories in school on this date.  Students who are attending summer school will not turn in their device at this time, but they will be collected at the end of the summer school program.

What's going on in Second Grade!

We can’t believe the school year is coming to an end! We have had such a wonderful year of growth and learning. It will be hard to say goodbye, but we are ready for some summer relaxin’!

We continue to flex our math muscles by learning the different ways to measure, compare measurements, show fractions, and solve story problems!  We will enforce our skills by continuing to play engaging games and use hands-on manipulatives to enhance our learning.

To continue with our efforts of writing with details, and using adjectives to make our writing more interesting, the second graders stretched their writing muscles by writing poems. The class was busy learning about different types of poetry like haikus, cinquains, and limericks!

Our second graders have been busy learning about landforms and goods and services! We will also wrap up our science unit on matter.

We will continue to reinforce positive behavior through our acronym R.O.A.R.

As you can see, it might be the end of the year, but Rockland's second graders are ready to leave second grade on a high note!

Warmly,

Tejal Mehta
