October 8th Rockland Review

October 8th Rockland Review

A Letter from Mr. Cieciwa

Dear Rockland Parents and Guardians,

We had an exciting week at Rockland!  Our kindergarten and first grade students celebrated fire prevention week with a ride in the Libertyville Fire Department antique fire truck.  Students enjoyed the ride and learning from the firefighters.  We also had our first bad weather arrival of the year.  Students and staff did a great job getting in the building and following expectations until heading off to their classrooms.  This Friday students will receive the PBIS rewards they earned with Rocky Bucks.  Students receive a Rocky Buck when they are observed following our ROAR expectations.  Thanks to our RFA volunteers, Toni Parvis and Susan Layburn, for helping fill all the orders.  Finally, we are looking forward to our Boy and VIP Dance that the RFA is putting on this Friday!

Parent Teacher Conferences:

We are looking forward to seeing our parents at conferences. Don’t forget to sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference on 10/13 or 10/14.  Please use this link to sign up:  Conference Sign-Up  The sign up will close on Monday 10/11.  Please don’t wait, spots are filling up quickly.

Health-Certification:

If you have not done so, please make sure to attestation form.  Families must go into PowerSchool to complete the attestation form for each of their school-aged children. The form is located in PowerSchool under School Forms in a form called “Required COVID-19 Certification.”

Halloween Events:

We will be hosting Halloween activities in the afternoon on Friday 10/29.  Students will change into their costumes after lunch.  The Halloween Parade will take place at 1:00-1:30 and will be weather permitting.  Classrooms will have parties and activities from 1:30-2:15.  Unfortunately, due to COVID, we are not having food at the parties, and we will continue to observe 3 feet of social distancing.  Please make sure your child is able to put on his/her costume without assistance and the costume should go over their clothes.  Costumes should not include weapons or prop weapons of any kind.  Save the scary costumes for the evening, please no gory or violent costumes or masks.  Students should not wear any masks which restrict their vision as this can be a safety issue.  Face masks will need to be worn with the costume while indoors.

Sincerely,

Jim Cieciwa

Principal

Resource News

What’s New with the Special Education Resource teachers in rooms 202 and 203!

We are off to a great school year! This year we have been learning about  and implementing tons of new resources to help our students be more  hands on with our interventions. We have been loving using the BenQ  boards. The board allows students to easily interact with the material we  are teaching. We are able to pull in worksheets, display videos, and use an  interactive whiteboard. Some of the intervention programs we use with our  students have online resources that we can pull and display on the BenQ  boards to make the activities more interactive as well. These programs  include our reading intervention program SPIRE and our math intervention  program Bridges. We have been seeing a huge increase in participation  from incorporating these boards in our lessons. We are looking forward to  continuing to learn about all of the neat technology resources that are out  there to help support our students grow!

Here’s to another great school year!

Kindergarten First Trimester News

3 different size pumpkins

Kindergarten has had a great start to the year! There were lots of classroom expectations and school-wide expectations presented. Students have accepted the challenge of these expectations and are doing their best to show expected behaviors!

We have been enjoying our unit on Community Helpers. We have learned about several different community helpers and what they do day in and day out to help others. This week, we took a ride on an antique fire truck and met some awesome firefighters. The ride was unbelievable!

During the month of October, we are going to be learning a lot about apples and pumpkins. We will talk about plant needs during our unit as well.

We are looking forward to later this month when we get to celebrate Halloween! Our parents are planning "spooktacular" parties! We will have our costumes, parade, and then party activities. Thank you to our wonderful parents and the RFA for planning such a memorable day.

As you have read, Kindergarten is off to a great start and we are looking forward to a year of learning, growing and fun!
